A Georgia Department of Public Safety press release says the 78-hour holiday period ran from May 22 to May 25 and included fatal crashes investigated by state troopers and local agencies.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said in a May 29 press release that 12 people died in fatal traffic crashes across the state during the 2026 Memorial Day holiday travel period.
According to the release, Georgia State Patrol troopers investigated five fatal traffic crashes, while local law enforcement agencies investigated seven fatal traffic crashes during the 78-hour period.
The holiday travel period began at 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 25, according to the press release.
