Georgia DPS says highway safety grant will continue DUI and traffic enforcement programs

According to a Georgia Department of Public Safety press release, the approximately $4.6 million H.E.A.T. grant took effect Oct. 1, 2025, and runs through Sept. 30, 2026.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awarded it a Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic grant to continue the Nighthawks DUI Task Force, the Administrative License Suspension program and the Statewide Mobilization Patrol.
DPS said the grant is approximately $4.6 million, took effect Oct. 1, 2025, and will continue through Sept. 30, 2026.
In the release, DPS identified Colonel William W. Hitchens III as commissioner and Allen Poole as director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
According to the release, the Nighthawks DUI Task Force is divided into three units. DPS said the North Unit primarily focuses on Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties; the Middle Unit focuses on Bibb, Muscogee and surrounding areas; and the South Unit focuses on Bulloch and Chatham counties.
DPS said the ALS program and the GSP Nighthawks DUI Task Force were created in 2004.
