A state release says the week highlights daily hurricane readiness topics and encourages Georgians to prepare before storms threaten.
The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency said it will observe National Hurricane Preparedness Week from May 3-9 in partnership with the National Weather Service and NOAA.
According to the release, the week is intended to encourage people in Georgia to understand tropical storm risks and begin pre-season preparations before threats arrive.
The agency said each day of the week will focus on a different aspect of hurricane preparedness, and residents are invited to follow along and take proactive steps to help protect their families, homes and pets.
The release lists daily topics from May 3 through May 9, including knowing local wind and water risks, preparing before hurricane season, understanding forecast information, getting ready to act when a storm threatens, staying protected during storms, using caution after storms and taking action now.
For more information, the release directs residents to Ready Georgia and NOAA hurricane preparedness resources and says people can contact their local emergency management agency to learn about risks in their area.
