Attorney general says Chatham County defendant sentenced after guilty plea in gang-related case

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr announced in a June 30 press release that Treyvon Howard, 20, of Garden City, was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in Chatham County Superior Court.

According to the release, the case involved two violent and gang-related incidents in Chatham County: the assault of an 18-year-old male at Frazier Homes Apartment Complex on Aug. 8, 2024, and the armed robbery and carjacking of a 44-year-old male at Oglethorpe Mall on Aug. 10, 2024.

The attorney general’s office said Howard pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including aggravated assault, armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, violations of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and financial transaction card theft.

The release states that Howard was sentenced to 20 years, with the first 13 years to be served in prison and the remainder on strict probation.

As part of the plea, the press release says Howard admitted to his association with the Rock Out Gang, which the attorney general’s office described as a hybrid criminal street gang originating in Savannah and aligning with the Rollin’ 60s Crips.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Brooklyn Franklin and investigated by the Savannah Police Department with assistance from the Attorney General’s Gang Prosecution Unit, according to the release. The attorney general’s office also said the state’s case against two remaining defendants is ongoing.
