Gov. Kemp Declares New State of Emergency Ahead of Winter Storm

(ATLANTA) – Governor Brian P. Kemp declared a statewide State of Emergency today ahead of this weekend's winter storm. This is a separate executive order from the one issued on January 22 ahead of Winter Storm Fern. Governor Kemp also directed the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) to activate the State Operations Center (SOC), beginning at noon today. Flood Safety Preparedness Week Begins Today

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), in partnership with the National Weather Service (NWS), will recognize March 9–13 as Flood Safety Preparedness Week. This initiative encourages all Georgia residents and visitors to educate themselves on how to prepare for potential flooding in advance.

Nearly 9.9 Million in Cybersecurity Grants Awarded to Georgia Schools and State/Local Entities

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and the Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) are pleased to announce the release of $9,873,903 in State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) Awards to 44 Georgia entities. Special consideration in award decisions for FY23 was given to cybersecurity projects for Georgia educational institutions, especially K-12 schools.

Disaster Assistance Available for Brantley County; Opens Disaster Loan Outreach Center

(ATLANTA) – Businesses and residents affected by the wildfires on April 20, 2026, in Brantley County can now apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). SBA will open a Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) to assist Georgians in the declared county applying for SBA disaster loan assistance at the Tax Assessors' Office Space (inside courthouse) in Nahunta, Ga., on Thursday, May 28, 2026, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Gov. Kemp Announces Two New Agency Heads

ATLANTA – The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Services Board today confirmed Governor Brian Kemp's nomination of Dr. Kirk Shook as Executive Director of the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency (GVRA). Dr. Shook succeeds Chris Wells who accepted an opportunity with the Georgia Hospital Association, building on the agency's successes in expanding employment opportunities and independence for Georgians with disabilities.
